Yellow Cars Pays Tribute to 330 Goodyear Tyres Factory Staff in Wolverhampton Losing their Jobs as Possible Local Location Contender for New Aston Martin Facility Could Ease Pain

It’s with a heavy heart that Yellow Cars saw in the national media that the first redundancies have now taken place at Goodyear’s only factory in the United Kingdom based in Wolverhampton for 90 years. It’s also reported in Transport Evolved that Sutton Coldfield could be a contender for a base for the manufacturing of Aston’s Martin’s new electric car. This would be a huge boost for the West Midlands after the awful Goodyear disappointment.

Darren Thorpe, Yellow Cars Managing Director said, “many a Yellow Cars passenger arrived at their destination safely thanks to Goodyear tyres. The community is mourning the loss of the jobs. It’s hard to contemplate that the Goodyear factory will be gone by January 2017. It’s been a way of life for so many people in the locality for generations. It’s a part of us.”

It’s also reported that Wolverhampton City Council has set up a special task force to help support the workers in finding alternative employment. Some of the staff were loyal to Goodyear for 25 years.

Mr. Thorpe added that, “imagine working in the same factory for a quarter of a century. There’s bound to be a colossal adjustment phase for the staff into new employment and opportunities. It’s been a topic of much discussion with our passengers since the news of the closure first broke.”

Finally, the Yellow Cars Managing Direction said, “it’s a sad day for Bushbury Lane in Wolverhampton but we have to remain hopeful for the sake of the families affected. At least there’s been some support from the Council, the Department for Work and Pensions and Job Centre Plus. We’ve a huge amount of respect here at Yellow Cars for all families with loved ones associated with Goodyear’s legacy in the region.”
