The Department for Transport’s Think! designated driver pubs initiative in Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield has been welcomed by Yellow Cars for keeping drunk drivers off the roads and making January safer for all.
Darren Thorpe, Yellow Cars Managing Director said, “it would be in the best interests of the community if the idea of more cover during the year for this sort of campaign could be explored. Soft drinks companies make money from families all year round and have an obligation to give back to society. It’s no skin off of their nose to provide free alternatives to alcohol for members of the public focused on designated driving.”
According to figures from the Department for Transport, 14% of all road deaths in the United Kingdom in 2013 can be attributed to drink driving. That equates to 240 lives lost to alcohol behind the wheel.
Mr. Thorpe added that, “encouraging people never to drink and drive keeps us all safer. When 14 out of every hundred people who lose their lives on the roads could have been spared if alcohol wasn’t involved is a sincerely sobering thought.”
Finally, the Yellow Cars Managing Direction said, “we’ll continue to always encourage members of the community to choose the safest way home and drink driving isn’t and never will be in our vocabulary in the interests of all passengers and drivers we serve in the West Midlands area.”
The award winning Yellow Cars is honoured to celebrate 21 years in business the West Midlands in 2016. The Mayor of Walsall awarded a Yellow Cars driver for saving the life of an elderly passenger. Here at Yellow Cars we believe in the promise of safety and constant innovation. Just like when we invested in the purchase of state-of-the-art breathalysers which we distributed free of charge to pubs in the community as part of our 2016 road safety drive to keep you and your family safer.
