Press Release:

Award Winning Yellow Cars Walsall Launches 2016 New Year Anti-Drink Driving Blitz with Investment in Free Breathalysers for Pubs Campaign

Walsall, Thursday December 31st 2015.

Walsall’s award winning Yellow Cars taxi business has invested in purchasing a stock of 25 high tech breathalysers which have been distributed free to local pubs as part of their new year 2016 road safety initiative.

Yellow Cars, Managing Director, Darren Thorpe said, “I was deeply shocked again today when I revisited the road death statistics for the United Kingdom. It’s horrific that 1,775 people lost their lives on our roads in 2014.(1) This represented a 4% increase on the previous year. That’s close to 2,000 families devastated by tragedies on our roads. I feel we have an obligation at Yellow Cars to do something to help the authorities reduce the impact on the people of Walsall. This is why I sanctioned the investment in 25 state-of-the-art breathalysers that were given out free to pubs in the area. It’s our way of giving back to the people of the locality who’ve been loyal to us since 1995.”

It’s a move that’s been especially welcomed in the local community. Mr. Singh from The Bradford Arms on Pleck Road said, “Yellow Cars should be applauded for their outside-the-box thinking and services they’re providing. Such a simple gesture has the potential to save lives locally. The Yellow Cabs breathalyser now gives us the technology to help get our message across to our customers in a very professional manner.”

This isn’t the first time Yellow Cars made headlines. One of their drivers, Jay Afzal, was presented with an award from the Mayor of Walsall for saving the life of pensioner, Valerie Flowers, who survived a heart attack.(2)

Darren Thorpe added that, “everyone deserves to get home safely. Here in Walsall and the Black Country of the West Midlands we take great pride in protecting our families. Our wider population was close to 270,000 people at the last census in 2011 in the greater metropolitan area of Walsall.(3) This is why The Department for Transports’s Think! road safety initiatives have greatly inspired us at Yellow Cars.”

Finally, the Yellow Cars Managing Director commented that, “this announcement is timely especially as a new police chief takes over in January 2016 at West Midlands Police. Yellow Cars would like to congratulate, David Thompson, who takes over the helm as Chief Constable from, Chris Sims, who is entering retirement.(4) We would like to take this opportunity to thank, Chris Sims DL OBE QPM MA Oxon MBA, for 36 years of distinguished service including his QPM Queen’s Policing Medal from Her Majesty the Queen in 2010. In addition, Walsall has gone down in the history books for the industrial revolution. We now want Walsall to be recognised for striving to have the safest roads in the United Kingdom. We continue to enjoy maintaining the highest levels of excellence at Yellow Cars for our drivers, staff and vehicles in this regulated profession.”
